Growing Tomatoes

This picture is from the first year I tried growing tomatoes, 2013. My dad gave me the idea to grow them in cute little egg shells and then you just crack the bottom a little and plant the whole thing.

It would've been great...

We went on vacation twice that summer. We got some plant sitters and that didn't work out so well so no tomatoes.

Last year the big flaw was the shade from the trees covering the garden area. Turns out tomato plants need sun not just water and the outdoors.

This year I've got a new plan. Sunlight, water, love and self watering should we leave town. These are my plants this year so far from seed. I started growing them inside and now carefully take them in and out depending on weather, I don't want them getting too cold at night.

As a back up plan I bought one gallon size early girl tomato plant from a nursery that was on sale for $1.99. It seems to have doubled in size in the past few weeks and already has two flowers on it!!

Now I'm working on my plan for where and what to plant them in. Any advice or tips are welcome.
